Upgrade for Higher Yields - ENERCON Offers New Operation Modes for the E-175 EP5 E1
With new operation modes, operators of ENERCON E-175 EP5 E1 wind turbines can significantly increase their energy yields and revenues. Based on successful prototype measurements, ENERCON now offers these new ‘operation modes’ as optional product upgrades. Depending on site conditions and operating concepts, they can boost the annual energy production (AEP) by up to 5 percent.
‘We continuously work to improve the performance and yield characteristics of our products,’ says Moritz Rodenhausen, Head of ENERCON Product Management. ‘This benefits both customers ordering new turbines and operators of existing ones. With our dynamic performance upgrades, we ensure optimal turbine operation throughout its entire lifecycle and offer our customers significant added value in all operational phases. “Smart Optimisation” is a key component of our integrated solution concept to unfold the full value of our customers’ Green Energy projects.’
The new operation modes are available as upgrades for the E-175 EP5 E1 and include, among other things, new parameters for noise-reduced operation. When the new ‘noise reduced mode’ is activated, AEP increases of around 5 percent are possible. Improvements have also been made to the yield-optimized operation mode, the ‘yield optimized mode’: when activated, the sound power level in open operation decreases by 1 decibel (dB(A)). ‘If there are no grid-related restrictions, many more wind farms can now switch to the yield optimized mode and benefit from the power increase to 6.3 MW – and thus significantly higher yields. That’s real added value,’ says Timo Müller, EP5 Product Manager at ENERCON.
‘No structural modifications, but hardware and software changes to the turbine are required to order and activate the new modes,’ explains Timo Müller. ‘The new modes also have no impact on the contractually guaranteed operational lifetime. Previously available operation modes remain valid, if customers do not purchase and implement the new upgrades in their turbines.’
ENERCON had already made the first optional operation modes available for the E-175 EP5 in 2023. ‘At the time, we announced that we would release further upgrades,’ says Moritz Rodenhausen. ‘This is part of our product strategy to give customers the ability to optimally adapt turbines to project-specific conditions and maintain them at an efficient performance level over time. Even under dynamic market conditions, we aim to offer our customers good return opportunities.’
