Bioenergy is a key pillar of Germany's renewable energy mix. In the power sector, bioenergy contributes some 27 % to the renewables mix. Biogas is the most important energy carrier in this sector. In the transport and heat sectors, bioenergy dominates the renewables mix with shares of almost 90 % in both areas. 

In all three sectors, bioenergy contributes to sizable greenhouse gas emission savings.
